mud bank

River's soft edge

A mud bank is a ridge or mound of mud deposited along a riverbed, estuary, or coastal area, typically exposed at low tide.

Mud banks form natural barriers and habitats in tidal zones: Crabs scuttled across the mud bank as the water receded.

The term also describes any accumulation of mud that creates an obstruction or landmark in shallow waters.
