moneyball

Statistics over scouts

Moneyball is a strategy of using statistical analysis rather than traditional scouting to evaluate players and build competitive sports teams on a limited budget.

The term comes from the 2003 book about the Oakland Athletics baseball team, whose general manager used data-driven methods to compete against wealthier franchises.

Now used broadly for any analytical approach that finds undervalued assets: They're applying moneyball principles to hiring.
