modifier keys

Keyboard shortcut enablers

Modifier keys are keyboard keys that alter the function of other keys when pressed in combination.

The main modifier keys are Shift, Control (Ctrl), Alt, and on Mac keyboards, Command.

Holding Shift while typing a letter produces its uppercase form; holding Control or Command with other keys triggers shortcuts: Ctrl+C to copy, Command+S to save.

Modifier keys do nothing when pressed alone.
