escape key

Cancel command trigger

The escape key is a key on computer keyboards, typically in the upper left corner, that cancels operations, closes dialog boxes, or exits modes.

In many programs, pressing escape backs out of whatever you're currently doing: I hit escape to close the menu.

Programmers and power users rely on it constantly; casual users may rarely touch it.
