modchip
Hardware piracy enabler
A modchip is a small circuit board installed inside a gaming console or other electronic device to bypass manufacturer restrictions.
Modchips typically allow playing pirated games, running homebrew software, or removing region locks: I installed a modchip in my PlayStation to play Japanese imports.
The practice exists in legal gray areas—often violating terms of service while sometimes protected as fair use.
