milldam
Water-powered obstruction
A milldam is a dam built across a stream to raise the water level and create a millpond, which provides the water power to turn a mill wheel.
The term appears in rural and historical contexts: The old milldam had fallen into disrepair.
By extension, milldam sometimes refers to the millpond itself.
