mental foramen
Mandibular nerve exit
The mental foramen is a small opening on either side of the lower jaw, near the chin, through which nerves and blood vessels pass.
Dentists must locate it when administering anesthesia for procedures on the lower teeth.
The X-ray clearly showed the mental foramen.
Mental here derives from the Latin word for chin, not mind.
