megastructure
Civilization-scale built environment
A megastructure is a massive artificial construction, typically one that dwarfs conventional buildings in scale.
In architecture and engineering, it refers to enormous interconnected complexes: The airport terminal is essentially a megastructure spanning several miles.
In science fiction, megastructures are hypothetical constructions of planetary or stellar scale—Dyson spheres, ring worlds, space elevators.
The term emphasizes sheer size and ambition beyond ordinary human building.
