domed city
Sheltered urban habitat
A domed city is a hypothetical urban area enclosed under a protective dome, a staple of science fiction depicting life in hostile environments—on other planets, underwater, or in a post-apocalyptic future.
The dome shields inhabitants from radiation, extreme temperatures, or toxic atmospheres: The colonists lived in domed cities on Mars.
Some utopian and dystopian visions feature domed cities as controlled environments where weather, air quality, and even social conditions are regulated.
