mega-churches
Giant worship centers
Mega-churches are Protestant Christian congregations with unusually large memberships, typically several thousand or more.
They often feature contemporary worship styles, charismatic pastors, and sprawling campus-like facilities with auditoriums, bookstores, and coffee shops.
The term sometimes carries skeptical connotations about commercialized or superficial faith: Critics dismiss mega-churches as spiritual shopping malls.
