medieval map
Pre-Renaissance world chart
A medieval map is a map made during the Middle Ages, roughly the 5th through 15th centuries.
These maps often blend geography with religious symbolism, placing Jerusalem at the center or depicting the world as a circle divided among the sons of Noah.
The term sometimes describes any map that looks antiquated or fanciful: The directions he gave me were like a medieval map—more legend than fact.
