city grids
Blocks and streets
City grids are the network of intersecting streets laid out in a rectangular pattern, characteristic of planned urban areas.
The grid makes navigation intuitive—you can give directions by counting blocks: Walk three blocks north, then two east.
Cities like Manhattan and Chicago are famous for their grids, while older European cities typically grew organically without them.
