malformations
Inborn physical defects
Malformations are abnormal formations or structures, typically referring to body parts that developed incorrectly.
The term appears most often in medical contexts to describe congenital conditions—those present at birth—such as heart malformations or spinal malformations.
Unlike injuries or diseases that damage something previously normal, malformations indicate that something formed wrong from the start.
The ultrasound revealed no fetal malformations.
