command ship
Admiral's floating base
A command ship is a naval vessel equipped to serve as a floating headquarters, providing communications, intelligence facilities, and operational control for a fleet commander or amphibious force.
Unlike flagships designated by tradition or an admiral's presence, command ships are purpose-built or converted specifically for command-and-control functions: The Seventh Fleet operates from its command ship in the Pacific.
