Mars lander
Red planet visitor
A Mars lander is a spacecraft designed to descend to and touch down on the surface of Mars, as distinguished from orbiters that remain in space or rovers that move across terrain after landing.
Landers typically carry instruments for studying Martian soil, atmosphere, and geology from a fixed position: The Viking landers transmitted the first images from the Martian surface.
