lockout-tagout

Machine isolation procedure

Lockout-tagout is a safety procedure for ensuring that dangerous machinery is properly shut down and cannot be restarted until maintenance or repair is complete.

Workers lock the power source and attach a tag identifying who placed the lock: OSHA requires lockout-tagout training for all equipment operators.

Often abbreviated LOTO.
