lochan
Small highland lake
A lochan is a small lake or pond, used chiefly in Scottish English.
The word is a diminutive of loch: We stopped to rest beside a lochan in the hills.
Lochans are common features of the Scottish Highlands, often unnamed and tucked into moorland or between peaks.
