linguines
Narrow Italian strands
Linguines is the plural of linguine, a flat narrow pasta similar to fettuccine but slightly thinner.
The word is Italian for "little tongues," describing the pasta's shape.
Since linguine already functions as both singular and plural in English, linguines appears occasionally but is redundant: We ordered two linguines works, but two plates of linguine is more natural.
