leviathans

Mythic ocean titans

Leviathans is the plural of leviathan, a word for something enormous and powerful.

The original Leviathan was a biblical sea monster, but the word now applies to any massive creature or entity: whales and other leviathans of the deep, corporate leviathans that dominate the market.

Thomas Hobbes used it as the title for his treatise on state power, reinforcing associations with overwhelming force.
