lens flares
Cinematic light artifacts
Lens flares are artifacts in photography and video caused by light scattering within the lens system, appearing as bright spots, streaks, or geometric shapes radiating from light sources.
Once considered a technical flaw, lens flares became a deliberate stylistic choice in film and digital media to suggest intensity, authenticity, or a dreamlike quality: The director added lens flares to every shot.
