legal claims
Rights asserted formally
Legal claims are formal assertions of a right or demand for remedy under the law.
A plaintiff files a legal claim against a defendant, seeking compensation, enforcement, or other relief.
The term covers everything from personal injury lawsuits to insurance demands to property disputes: She has a legal claim to half the estate.
To have a claim is to possess grounds for legal action; to make a claim is to assert it formally.
