lady's maid

Mistress's dressing assistant

A lady's maid is a personal servant who attends to a wealthy or aristocratic woman's intimate needs: dressing, hairdressing, care of clothing and jewelry, and other aspects of personal appearance.

Unlike a housekeeper or general domestic servant, a lady's maid works exclusively for her mistress and often travels with her.

The position was common in upper-class British and European households from the 18th through early 20th centuries.

Her lady's maid helped her dress for the ball.
