key switch
Cylinder-based security toggle
A key switch is a switch operated by a physical key, used where security or controlled access matters—starting a vehicle, arming an alarm system, or restricting equipment operation to authorized users.
In mechanical keyboards, key switch refers to the mechanism beneath each keycap that registers a keystroke: I prefer Cherry MX key switches for their tactile feedback.
