debounce

Suppress rapid repeats

Debounce is a programming technique that delays processing repeated signals until they stop arriving.

When a user rapidly clicks a button or types in a search field, debouncing waits for a pause before responding—preventing the system from firing dozens of times for a single intended action: We debounced the input field so it only searches after the user stops typing.

The term comes from electrical engineering, where mechanical switches "bounce" and create multiple signals from one press.
