junkyards
Wrecked vehicle lots
Junkyards are places where discarded vehicles, machinery, and metal are collected for salvage or resale.
The term carries connotations of disorder and decay—rusting cars, stacked tires, mangy dogs.
A junkyard may also be called a salvage yard or scrapyard, though those terms sound slightly more respectable.
Figuratively, any cluttered space might be called a junkyard: His office was a junkyard of old files and broken equipment.
