jinrikisha

Human-powered taxi

A jinrikisha is a light two-wheeled cart pulled by a person on foot, used historically for transporting passengers in East Asia.

The word comes from Japanese meaning "human-powered vehicle." Also spelled rickshaw or ricksha, the shortened forms now predominate: We took a rickshaw through the old quarter.
