jailbreaking
Breaking out illegally
Jailbreaking is removing software restrictions imposed by a device manufacturer, typically to install unauthorized apps or customize the operating system beyond its intended limits.
The term originated with Apple's iPhone but applies to any locked-down device: I jailbroke my phone to install apps that aren't in the App Store.
The metaphor treats factory settings as a prison.
In AI contexts, jailbreaking means manipulating a chatbot into bypassing its safety guidelines.
