jacquards

Punch-card textiles

Jacquards are fabrics woven on a Jacquard loom, which uses a system of punched cards to control individual warp threads and create intricate patterns.

The technique produces complex designs—brocades, damasks, tapestries—that would be impossible or impractical to weave by hand.

The term covers both the fabric and the loom mechanism: jacquard upholstery, a jacquard weave.
