block prints
Ink-pressed relief images
Block prints are images or patterns made by pressing an inked carved surface—traditionally wood or linoleum—onto paper or fabric.
The technique produces distinctive bold lines and solid areas of color.
As a verb, to block print is to create such images: She block prints greeting cards in her studio.
The term also refers to the finished products themselves: The gallery sells Japanese block prints.
