Babbage

Analytical engine inventor

Charles Babbage was a 19th-century English mathematician and inventor who designed mechanical computing machines—the Difference Engine and Analytical Engine—that anticipated modern computers by a century.

His name appears in computing contexts as a pioneer: Babbage is often called the father of the computer.

The Analytical Engine's design included concepts like memory and conditional branching that wouldn't be realized until electronic computers emerged in the 1940s.
