jackknives

Pike dives, bent

Jackknives is the plural of jackknife—a folding pocketknife with one or more blades that pivot into the handle.

The word extends to movements resembling a closing knife: a jackknife dive brings the body into a tight V before straightening, and a truck jackknifes when the trailer swings toward the cab at a sharp angle.
