internet research
Web-based fact-finding
Internet research is the practice of gathering information online—through search engines, databases, websites, and digital archives.
The term covers everything from casual fact-checking to systematic academic investigation: I did some internet research before buying the car.
It often implies convenience over rigor, sometimes used dismissively to contrast with primary sources or expert knowledge: His medical opinions come from internet research.
