Quadruple swimming event
An individual medley is a swimming race in which a single competitor swims all four competitive strokes in sequence: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle.
Standard distances are 200 meters (50 per stroke) or 400 meters (100 per stroke).
Often abbreviated IM: She set a new record in the 400 IM.
