freestyle relay
Sequential swimming race
A freestyle relay is a swimming race in which teams of four swimmers each complete a leg using any stroke, though front crawl dominates because it's fastest.
The event appears at every level from youth meets to the Olympics: The U.S. took gold in the 4x100 freestyle relay.
Unlike medley relays, all four swimmers use the same stroke.
