outmigration
Leaving one's region
Outmigration is movement of people out of a region, country, or area—the opposite of immigration from the perspective of the place being left.
The term appears mainly in demographic and policy contexts: Rural outmigration has accelerated as young people seek opportunities in cities.
Unlike emigration, which emphasizes leaving one's homeland, outmigration can describe movement at any geographic scale.
