ignition system
Spark-making mechanism
An ignition system is the components in an internal combustion engine that produce the spark to ignite the fuel-air mixture.
It typically includes the battery, ignition coil, distributor (in older vehicles), spark plugs, and associated wiring.
Modern vehicles use electronic ignition systems controlled by computers, replacing the mechanical points and condensers of earlier designs.
