spark coil
Engine ignition component
A spark coil is an induction coil that produces the high-voltage spark needed to ignite fuel in an internal combustion engine.
It transforms low battery voltage into the thousands of volts required to jump the gap in a spark plug: The mechanic replaced the faulty spark coil.
Also called an ignition coil.
