Roof flashing is thin metal or other material installed at joints and transitions in a roof—around chimneys, vents, skylights, and where the roof meets a wall—to prevent water from seeping in.
The flashing directs water away from vulnerable seams: The roofer replaced the corroded flashing around the chimney.
Most roof leaks trace back to failed or improperly installed flashing.
