hypoventilation
Dangerously shallow breathing
Hypoventilation is abnormally slow or shallow breathing that fails to move enough air through the lungs.
Carbon dioxide builds up in the blood while oxygen levels drop.
Causes include drug overdose, obesity, neuromuscular disorders, or lung disease.
The opposite of hyperventilation: The patient's hypoventilation required mechanical ventilation.
