alkalemia

Elevated blood pH

Alkalemia is a medical condition in which the blood has a higher pH than normal, meaning it is too alkaline.

The typical blood pH range is 7.35 to 7.45; alkalemia occurs when pH rises above 7.45.

This can result from excessive loss of acid (as through prolonged vomiting) or retention of bases in the body.

The patient's alkalemia was caused by hyperventilation.

The underlying process causing this condition is called alkalosis.
