hyperlocal

Block-by-block news

Hyperlocal describes news, information, or services focused on a very small geographic area—a neighborhood, a few blocks, a single town.

The term emerged with digital media, as websites and apps could target audiences too small for traditional newspapers or TV stations: a hyperlocal blog covering zoning disputes in my corner of Brooklyn.

The prefix hyper- emphasizes extreme specificity.
