hydrofracking
Pressurized underground drilling
Hydrofracking, also called hydraulic fracturing or fracking, is a method of extracting oil or natural gas by injecting high-pressure fluid into rock formations to create fractures.
The technique has dramatically increased fossil fuel production but remains controversial due to concerns about groundwater contamination, earthquakes, and environmental damage: The town banned hydrofracking near its water supply.
