holm
Small water-bounded land
A holm is a small island, especially one in a river or near a larger landmass.
The word survives mainly in British place names—Stockholm, Blenheim, Holme—and in regional dialects of northern England and Scotland.
Outside these contexts, holm appears mostly in historical or literary writing: The Vikings made camp on a grassy holm in the estuary.
