Ian Holm
Ian Holm was a British actor known for intense, precisely controlled performances across stage and screen.
He played Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's *Lord of the Rings* trilogy and the android Ash in *Alien*.
His stage work included acclaimed Shakespearean roles, and he won a Tony for *Homecoming*.
Born Ian Holm Cuthbert, he was knighted in 1998.
