hogfish

Snout-nosed reef fish

A hogfish is a large wrasse found in warm Atlantic waters, prized as a game and food fish.

Named for its elongated, pig-like snout used to root through sediment for prey.

The body is reddish with distinctive markings, and males develop a pronounced forehead ridge.

We caught a beautiful hogfish off the reef.
