hiring hall
Union job center
A hiring hall is a facility where workers, typically in unionized trades, go to find employment.
The union or employer association maintains a list of available workers and dispatches them to jobs as openings arise.
Common in construction, longshore work, and other industries with fluctuating labor needs: He showed up at the hiring hall every morning hoping for work.
