headshaking
Side-to-side refusal
Headshaking is the act of moving one's head from side to side, typically to express disapproval, disbelief, or negation.
It can also convey bewilderment or resignation in response to something foolish or disappointing: There was much headshaking among the committee members after the proposal fell apart.
The gesture is nearly universal as a signal of "no" in Western cultures, though its meaning varies elsewhere.
