scoffing

Sneering at something

Scoffing is mocking or expressing contemptuous disbelief.

Someone scoffing at an idea dismisses it as absurd or unworthy: He scoffed at the suggestion that he apologize.

The word implies superiority—the scoffer considers themselves above whatever they're rejecting.

In British usage, scoffing also means eating greedily: She scoffed the entire cake.
