hashtag activism

Hashtag activism is the practice of promoting social or political causes through hashtags on social media platforms.

The term often carries a dismissive tone, implying superficial engagement—clicking and sharing rather than organizing or donating: Hashtag activism might raise awareness, but does it actually change anything?

Also called slacktivism when the criticism is explicit.
