hard inquiry
Lender's score request
A hard inquiry is a credit check that appears on your credit report and may temporarily lower your credit score.
Lenders make hard inquiries when you apply for a mortgage, car loan, or credit card: The hard inquiry from my loan application dinged my score by a few points.
Contrast with soft inquiry, which doesn't affect your score.
